Lowndes approves money for veterans

In other business, a request from Blackacre Developers to rezone 25.085 acres on Orr Road from R-A to R-21 (45 lots) met with opposition. Several neighbors from the Jordan, Lucas and Robinson families spoke in opposition due to concerns about percolation, issues pertaining to water and septic problems in the area, and the depreciation of property values.

Real estate attorney and applicant Trent Coggins, accompanied by his engineer, Jeff Lovell, spoke on behalf of the rezoning case.

“Density is not a justifiable argument here. Whether the lots will perk or not is not important,” said Coggins. “Let’s discuss issues relevant to the subject property. The property has been determined as a growth area, and one acre lots are more appropriate for this property.”

After hearing both arguments for and against the rezoning request, Commissioners Richard Lee acknowledged forthcoming change in the area but questioned rezoning the area at this time. After Lee cited his concerns, Commissioners unanimously denied the rezoning request.
